REGISTERThis History of Linguistics in three volumes, consists of twelve chapters written by leading specialists. It considers the main areas and periods in the reflection on language. It aims at reconstructing the discussions and insights characteristic of the individual traditions, rather than looking at them from the viewpoint of our own linguistic interests. Volume One presents the following traditions: - I. Chinese, by G. Malmqvist; - II. Indian, by G. Cardona; - III. Egyptian, Sumerian, Accadian, by Janet Johnson, M. Civil, E. Reiner; - IV. Hebrew, by R. Loewe; - V. Arabic, by H. Fleisch; - VI. Graeco-Roman, by Peter Matthews. Volume Two presents the following chapters: - VII. Middle Ages, by E. Vineis and A. Maierù; - VIII. Renaissance, by M. Tavoni, M.D. Gandolfo, S. Toscano; - IX. Seventeenth and Eighteenth Century, by R. Simone. The Third volume includes the last three chapters: X.
